Welcome to Year 1 - Poland Class

Class Teacher: Mrs Johal
Welcome, my name is Mrs Sandeep Johal, and I am delighted to be the Head of Year 1 and a Class Teacher at Wexham Court Primary School.
I have worked in education for over 20 years and completed my PGCE at Brunel University. Throughout my career, I have had the valuable experience of teaching across Years 1, 2 and 3, giving me a broad understanding of children’s learning and development throughout Key Stage 1. I have also had the privilege of supporting and mentoring newly qualified teachers, sharing my experience and helping them to develop their confidence and practice.
I am committed to creating a positive, nurturing and stimulating learning environment in which every child feels valued, supported and inspired to achieve their full potential. I believe that developing children’s confidence, independence and curiosity is fundamental to their success as learners. A particular focus of mine is fostering a love of reading and helping children to recognise the enjoyment, knowledge and opportunities that reading can bring. I believe that developing strong reading skills from an early age provides children with a firm foundation for their future learning.
As Head of Year 1, I value building strong and positive relationships with children, families and colleagues. I believe that a successful partnership between home and school plays an important role in supporting children’s development, wellbeing and enjoyment of learning.
Outside of school, I enjoy spending quality time with my family and making the most of the outdoors, particularly through walking.
I am very much looking forward to working with the children and families of Year 1 at Wexham Court Primary School and to creating a happy, successful and memorable year of learning together.
My book recommendations are:
- We’re Going on a Bear Hunt by Michael Rosen
- Room on the Broom by Julia Donaldson
- The Enormous Crocodile by Roald Dahl
