Welcome to Year 6 - Sri Lanka Class

Class Teacher: Mrs R Patel
Hello, I'm Mrs Patel.
I have worked in schools across Coventry, Reading and Slough, in both the maintained and independent sectors. Over the years, I have been fortunate to take on a range of roles, many of them focused on leading mathematics, which has always been a real passion of mine.
I believe that every child can achieve when they are supported, encouraged and challenged to be their very best. I am a strong believer in working closely with families because, as the saying goes, "It takes a village to raise a child." When school, home and the wider community work together, children thrive.
When I'm not in school, you'll often find me exploring National Trust parks and enjoying long walks. I also love reading and am always looking for my next great book recommendation, whether it's fiction or non-fiction!
Three Books I Would Recommend for Year 6:
When the Sky Falls by Phil Earle
A powerful and moving story set during World War II. It has plenty of adventure and action and is often particularly popular with boys. It explores friendship, courage and loyalty.
Asha & the Spirit Bird by Jasbinder Bilan
A beautiful and inspiring story that celebrates culture, family and determination. Set in India, it offers children a rich insight into another part of the world whilst following Asha's journey of resilience and hope.
The Final Year by Matt Goodfellow
Written in verse, this book follows Nate as he navigates friendships, family challenges and the transition to secondary school. It's an uplifting story about perseverance, kindness and finding your voice.
I look forward to getting to know the children and families in our school community and to sharing an exciting year of learning together.
